Day 3 - Desert Day

Eastward, ho!

Well, almost. And I'm not a ho! We tried to leave LA around 8 am on a Tuesday, but as you can imagine traffic on the interstate during rush hour wasn't exactly fast moving. We crept along and burned through our DVD battery pretty quick keeping the boys entertained. I can't exactly ask them to look out the window when it's super boring and not changing for over an hour. As navigator I'm up and down like 30x an hour: water, snacks, milk, gum, snacks, milk, entertainment, snacks, milk, read a book, snacks milk. Can you tell the 3 guys in the car eat a lot of snacks? We had more nuts on board than a squirrel den at the end of October.

The boys figure out how to throw and kick things across the table to each other. Teamwork!

I take a screen shot when I check the weather. This is the closest I will get to Coachella!

Once we finally got moving a little faster, G started on his daily annoyance of shouting, "I have to poop!" like 5 minutes after we just stopped. Fortunately with the RV we just need to pull over, turn on the generator and water pump, and go in the bathroom in back. Ta da! That's fun. But God knows if one gets out of the car seat, the other has to. Then Daddy has to go. Then mommy and daddy want Starbocks because it's right there. Then Daddy has to park across the world from Starbocks so we can get a big enough space and not back up. Basically the need to stop every 1-2 hours and spend 30-45 minutes stopped, coupled with hills and having to drive slower is going to double our travel time. Aye dios mio.

Mike, G, Mad Dog and Arlo
We get out of LA finally and are headed to Palm Springs, to meet Mike's Uncle Jerry. Uncle Jerry is lovingly dubbed Mad Dog. We are going to meet Mad Dog in the middle of the desert. We make it to him around 1. Super close to our estimated arrival time of 10 am! Fortunately Uncle Jerry's time share has an amazing pool and water slides for kids. Score! The nice thing about the RV is I unpacked everything from suitcases the night before we left so since we happened to find a pool, all I had to do was grab the swim stuff from their drawers. It's kind of nice to have a moving house in terms accessibility. The only problem with our little visit was Lo is white. Like, the whitest white you will see on human skin. He just melts in the heat, and even the pool was too hot for him. He was pretty miserable and just wanted to take a nap in the AC. Meanwhile swarthy little G was making friends, swimming around like a fish and going down the water slide 700 times.  We have lunch with Jerry and then hit the road with the AC blasting to hope the boys get a car nap.

We are realizing the car set up might not work. G's legs are not comfortable on top of the table and Lo hates that his seat isn't reclined like a baby any more. We resolve to figure something new out tonight. Naps do not go well. Lo basically screams "I no like bacation! I need to get out! NO BACATION!!!!" throughout all of southeastern California. We decide we certainly aren't making it to Prescott, Arizona tonight, let alone Williams, AZ. That now seems laughable as a goal for the first night.

Lo, pretending he's totally chill with being in a carseat.
We set our sights on Blythe, CA for the night. It's right on the Colorado so we hope it's cooler. It is not. But hey, our AC works! So we have a nice little first night at camp. Other than the fact that we're pretty sure half the campground is people that are on the lamb and "camping" fairly permanently. We agree to stick with KOAs from now on.
